East Coast Construction has reinforced its commitment to putting people first by delivering a dedicated health and safety leadership session for key operational staff.
Held at Beverley Racecourse, the event brought together Site Managers, Contracts Managers and Lead Gangers for a powerful and engaging session led by Justin Manley of Titanium Talks.
Justin, whose personal story of surviving a life-changing workplace accident has reached and influenced thousands of people across the UK, shared his experience in a hard-hitting presentation focused on the real-world consequences of safety failures.
The session formed part of our ongoing strategy to strengthen safety leadership across the business and to ensure the “why” behind every safe decision remains at the forefront of day-to-day operations.
The 3 main objectives of the session
• Reinforce that health and safety is not simply about compliance, but about protecting lives.
• Encourage open and honest conversations about what can happen when things go wrong.
• Further develop a culture in which everyone looks out for one another, both on site and beyond.
Feedback from those in attendance has been overwhelmingly positive, with many participants saying the session has fundamentally changed the way they think about safety.
Attendees highlighted that the impact went beyond personal responsibility, extending to a renewed awareness of the duty they hold to colleagues working alongside them. The session was widely described as emotional, thought-provoking and a stark reminder of what is truly at stake.
We will continue to build on this initiative through further leadership sessions, regular toolbox talks and open discussions focused on behavioural safety and wellbeing across the business throughout the year ahead.
